Prawn on the Lawn is hands down one of my favourite seafood spots in North London. It’s perfect for when you’re craving big flavours with a touch of Asian influence. I’ve been coming here since they were in their first tiny space just down the road from where they are now. Back then, they were a fishmonger and tapas bar, only serving cold dishes since they didn’t have a full kitchen. Fast forward to today, and their move closer to Highbury and Islington station has been a huge success. Now, they offer a full menu of delicious seafood dishes, plus the option to buy fresh fish to take home.
The vibe is cosy and relaxed, with views of the main road and an open kitchen, depending on where you sit. Sitting by the counter is great, you’re right where the action is and can take in all the amazing seafood aromas. They also have a private dining room downstairs, which looks perfect for special gatherings.
On my last visit this weekend, my partner and I ordered a bit of everything, and every single dish was as delicious as ever. I’d recommend getting a mix of cold and hot plates to experience the full range of flavours, especially those with a Thai twist. One dish I always order is the deep-fried oysters, they’re a must-try! And what keeps this place fresh is that every time you come back, you’ll find new dishes and variations on their ‘classics’.
If you’re after a cosy seafood spot with great sharing plates, Prawn on the Lawn is a seafood favourite of mine. You won’t be disappointed!
