Thanks to food writers like myself, I ended up discovering this hidden Italian treasure. Although I live nearby and visit the area once or twice a month, I somehow never knew about this little Neapolitan joint offering intimate and private dining experiences.
What started as an Italian food stall and catering venture, has creatively evolved into a cosy dining space, with the owners transforming its roof into a private dining area that hosts up to eight people. That was the case for us, we booked well in advance to enjoy an authentic and chilled Italian evening. The quirky, homely setting of their terrace is simply perfect—rustic yet welcoming, with an atmosphere that feels quite unique.
What to expect?
At Sugo 82 there’s no menu for the dinner service, instead, there's a traditional Italian set menu for the entire table. It begins with a bottle of prosecco, followed by two platters of classical Italian antipasti, then a few fried primi piatti, and finally a selection of delicious secondi, including carbonara and ragù. You simply can't go wrong with that. And for dessert? Well, I’ll leave that as a surprise. To finish things off, you'll enjoy an unmissable glass of Limoncello.
In summary, our evening with a group of eight was quite an indulgent experience of Neapolitan food. Dining on this rustic terrace, enjoying a cosy feast while overlooking a bit of the London Fields area, playing our own music, and being served by their friendly staff—it was simply perfect and unique. There aren't many places, particularly in East London, that can deliver such an enjoyable experience without veering into hipster or pretentious territory. Sugo 82 offers genuine Italian and Neapolitan flavours without the fuss.
Important note: at the end of our visit, while chatting with the owner, I learned that they might not be in this location for too long, so I’d strongly recommend booking your dinner party soon before they move.
