The Best Kebab in East London

London does kebabs like nowhere else. Sure, Berlin has its fair share and Istanbul masters the art of charcoal grilling, but London? London turns kebabs into something entirely different, that midnight(ish) ritual, a post-pub necessity, a craving that hits when you’re either in between spots or just about to call it a night.
In my case, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve found myself wandering the streets of Dalston after midnight, searching for that perfect fix. And if you’re after the best kebab, East London is the place to be. Living in the sweet spot between East and North London, right next to Green Lanes, the heart of London’s Turkish community and just a stone’s throw from Dalston, I’m spoiled for choice. With so many options, picking the right spot after a night out isn’t always easy. But that’s exactly why these recommendations will help you on your next kebab hunt.
However, this post isn’t about sit-down Turkish restaurants like the legendary Mangal 1, where you can feast on a full grill and other delights. No, this is about the takeaways, the places where you have to queue, exchanging nonsense chatter with other hungry fellas, all after the same goal: the best kebab to satisfy your munchies.
So here are my top three picks for the best döner kebab in East London.
Quick note: Unfortunately, due to the late hours of my visits and cravings, I’ve never managed to take a decent picture worth sharing, but still just one for reference 😆
Super Kebab - Dalston
This place has been my go-to for the past five years, and it never lets me down. There’s no fuss, just the late-night chatter and the smell of grilled meat filling the air. You wait alongside strangers who, for a brief moment, share the same mission; to get their hands on a proper kebab. The staff are always friendly and despite the official closing time being just past midnight, they always keep the doors open later, making it an absolute lifesaver in the area.
The Best Turkish Kebab - Stoke Newington
Don't be put off by its name because this place hardly needs an introduction as it is a true East London institution. One of the most famous and well-loved kebab joints in the area (and London), it has been serving up delicious kebabs since the 80s. Along the way, they have picked up plenty of awards, including the latest recognition from the britishkebabawards as the Winner of Best Takeaway in 2025.
But what really sets this spot apart is its late opening hours. Staying open until 3am on weekends, it is the best choice for a late-night kebab after a night out in East London. Note: expect proper queues but as everything in life, good things come to those who wait.
Kozan Grill - Newington Green
This is a bit of a bonus track because this relatively new addition to the neighbourhood has quickly become one of my favourites. While it’s more of a proper grill restaurant than a dedicated kebab takeaway, they still serve a fantastic doner right at the entrance. I’ve enjoyed some of the most delicious wraps here, but the only downside is that it’s only for the early cravings, as they close promptly at midnight.
As someone who’s spent countless nights chasing the perfect kebab, I can confidently say that these spots are the real deal. Next time you're out and about in East London, make sure you stop by one of them, even if they’re a bit far, because that extra effort will pay off 🥙🌯
